KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

TONY AVENT attended North Carolina State University and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture Science. He studied under the well renowned horticulturalist J.C.Raulston. Raulston instilled in him the quest for the newest and best garden plants from around the world. Tony worked as a weekly garden columnist for Raleigh's News and Observer newspaper from 1987 to 1998. He established Plant Delights Nursery and Juniper Level Botanic Gardens in 1988 and by 1994 the business had expanded enough for him to resign his state job and become a full-time nurseryman .A plant breeder who is best known for his Hosta breeding program, and actively breeds other genera as well. In addition, Tony Avent travels the world on plant hunting expeditions to search for new, rare, and unusual plants

CHIP CALLAWAY graduated from the College of Architecture at N.C State University with a masters degree in Landscape Architecture. Over the past 30 years,Chip and his design staff have designed nearly 1000 gardens ranging in size from large estates to small patios. During his career Chip has completed commissions from Nantucket and Long Island to Palm Beach and England with the majority of the projects coming from the Carolinas and Virginia.

LAURA REDD studied interior design in Germany. .By 1998, she founded Laura Redd Interiors in Raleigh to begin her design career. After relocating her company to Greensboro in 2003 she worked for other design companies to get the lay of the land, quickly realizing Redd Interiors does design like no one else. What sets her business apart is Redd’s belief that not every project should be a total removal. Redd gets to know her clients and their style and builds a beautiful room around their key pieces, how they live and what will work for their individual home. She doesn’t design in her style she creates theirs. . Redd creates innovative interiors that express who the client is and how they live, using fabrics and materials that are family/pet friendly, styles that are current, fresh and fun.

ELLEN ASHLEY - Gardening teacher offering an extensive course on gardening that goes through every season. Ellen is past president of the Guilford County Master Gardners, an active member of the Guilford Horticulture Society and past executive committee member of Greensboro Beautiful, Inc.
